THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A warning to all as we leave our nest
“14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.”
Proverbs 4:14-17 (KJV)
Genesis 24
The following is an illustration of the relationship between Isaac and Rebekah
Terah
|
Abraham Nahor
| |
Isaac Bethuel
|
Rebekah – Laban
Isaac marries his second cousin, Rebekah
Genesis 24:47 (KJV), “And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.”
Isaiah 15 Proclamation against Moab
The founder of the people of Moab was the son born of the incestuous relationship between Lot and one of his daughters, when his daughters made Lot drunk, after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
Genesis 19:30-38 (KJV), “30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. 37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. 38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.”
God prophesies the destruction of Moab because of their pride, their history of hostility towards Israel, and their general wickedness, as Moabites had rejected God and treated Israel harshly
Moab was a land, a people, and a kingdom located east of the Dead Sea in what is now the kingdom of Jordan. Moab as a land is first mentioned in the reign of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses

Kir of Moab is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as one of the two main strongholds of Moab, the other being Ar. It is probably the same as the city called Kir-haresh
Isaiah 15:1 (KJV), “The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence.”
The picture is of a Moabite man fleeing the destruction of his city, running to his temple and his pagan gods for protection and mourning
Isaiah 15:2 (KJV), “He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.”
“Bajith” likely refers to a temple, specifically a temple of the false gods of Moab, where people went to weep and lament
Psalms 11
This Psalms talks of the faith we must have in the Lord’s righteousness
When trouble comes your way, by putting your faith in the Lord, you need not run and hide
Psalm 11:1 (KJV), “In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?”
Psalm 11:5 (KJV), “The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.”
God has prepared a place for both the righteous and the wicked in heart
Psalm 11:6-7 (KJV), “6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.”
Proverbs 4
It is a godly parent’s responsibility to teach sound doctrine to their children continuously as they grow so they will not permit worldly influences to corrupt them
Proverbs 4:1-2 (KJV), “ Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.”
No matter how old you are or how old your children are, they are still your children
Proverbs 4:4-6 (KJV), “4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.”
God places this great responsibility on all parents, this is a life-long commitment
Proverbs 4:11-13 (KJV), “11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened [hindered or strained]; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”
A warning to all as we leave our nest
Proverbs 4:14-17 (KJV), “14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.”
