THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Stay close to God, for when adversity comes, you will be well prepared
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”
Proverbs 24:10 (KJV)
Genesis 19
Genesis 19:36-38 (KJV), “36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. 37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. 38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.”

Isaiah 6 – Isaiah called to be a prophet
Isaiah 6:1 (KJV), “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”
Uzziah was adored by Isaiah, it was not until Uzziah died that he saw the Lord. Why? It was because Isaiah at one point in his life depended on king Uzziah. He had a lot of respect on him, rather than the Lord
Who was King Uzziah?
Uzziah, also known as Azariah, was a strong and wise king in Old Testament Judah who reigned for 52 years. He died near 740 BC. In the earlier part of his kingship, under the influence of his advisor Zechariah, Uzziah was faithful to God and did right in the Lord’s eyes.
2 Chronicles 26:1-4 (KJV), “1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 3 Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 4 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did.”
Uzziah then became prideful and was stricken by God
2 Chronicles 26:18-19 (KJV), “18 And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the Lord God. 19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, from beside the incense altar.”
God’s instruction to Isaiah
Isaiah 6:9-10 (KJV), “9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
What will remain
Isaiah 6:13 (KJV), “But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.”
Psalms 6
David may have written this Psalms during his old age, when his son Absalom rebelled against him
2 Samuel 15:12-14 (KJV), “12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom. 13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. 14 And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.”
Another possible inspiration is David’s sorrow over his sin with Bathsheba
2 Samuel 12:9 (KJV), “Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.”
Psalm 6 is one of seven penitential psalms: songs expressing confession and repentance
A prayer to God asking for forgiveness
Psalm 6:1-2 (KJV), “1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 2 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.”
The powers of principality and darkness are all around. We need to rebuke them in the name of God
Ephesians 6:11-12 (KJV), “11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Psalm 6:8-9 (KJV), “8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping. 9 The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.”
Proverbs 24
Be strong and build your foundation around God
Proverbs 24:3-4 (KJV), “3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: 4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
A wise man is given strength
Proverbs 24:5 (KJV), “A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.”
