THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Live up to your name and leave a rememberable legacy
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
Proverbs 22:1 (KJV)
Genesis 16
The name Ishmael means “God will hear”
Genesis 16:11 (KJV), “And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.”
El Roi (Biblical Hebrew: אֵל רֳאִי, romanized: ʾĒl Rŏʾī) is one of the names of God in the Hebrew Bible
Genesis 16:13 (KJV), “And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?”
Genesis 16:13 (NASB1995), “Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees”; for she said, “Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?””
Isaiah 3
God speaks to Isaiah on what will transpire
Isaiah 3:1 (KJV), “For, behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water.”
This is actually translated as, “For behold, the Lord, Yahweh of hosts.”
The Lord
Strong’s Lexicon (1113) – adon: Lord, master, owner. The Hebrew word Adonai. Brown-Driver-Briggs – 1. singular lord, master (1) reference to men: (a) superintendent of household, or of affairs.
The Lord [of hosts]
Strong’s Lexicon (3068) – Yhvh: LORD (often rendered in all capital letters in English translations to distinguish it from other titles). Transliteration: Yhovah. Pronunciation: yah-VEH or yah-WEH. Phonetic Spelling: (yeh-ho-vaw’). Brown-Driver-Briggs – proper name, of deity Yahweh, the proper name of the God of Israel.
The judgment is worse than just taking away food and water. God also brought judgment on Jerusalem and Judah by depriving them of godly, competent leaders on every level
Isaiah 3:2-4 (KJV), “2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, 3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator. 4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.”
Isaiah 3:5 (KJV), “And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.”
The purpose of this judgement
Isaiah 3:8-9 (KJV), “8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory. 9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.”
What the outcome will be
Isaiah 3:24-26 (KJV), “24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well-set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. 25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.”
Psalms 3
At times, we can feel as if the whole world is against us
Psalm 3:1-2 (KJV), “Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.”
But, not to worry, God will never leave you or forsake you
Psalm 3:3-4 (KJV), “3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. 4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 (KJV), “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
Hebrews 13:5 (KJV), “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
1 Chronicles 28:20 (KJV), “And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.”
1 Kings 8:57 (KJV), “The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us.”
Proverbs 22
Live up to your name and leave a rememberable legacy
Proverbs 22:1 (KJV), “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
Ecclesiastes 7:1 (KJV), “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.”
These things the Lord hates and abhorrers
Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV), “16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
And consequently, because of these, we will fall
Proverbs 22:14 (KJV), “The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.”
God wants us to listen to the wisdom He Has to offer us
Proverbs 22:17-19 (KJV), “17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.”
