THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Don’t ever deny your faith
“69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.”
Matthew 26:69-70 (KJV)
Matthew 26
The shedding of Jesus’ blood was the sign of the new covenant, the law of Jesus
Matthew 26:28 (KJV), “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
Jeremiah 31:31 (KJV), “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.”
Jesus declared to His disciples that they had to stumble for His sake to fulfill the prophecy of Zechariah
Zechariah 13:7 (KJV), “Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.”
Matthew 26:31 (KJV), “Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.”
A kiss of deceitfulness
Proverbs 27:6 (KJV), “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
Matthew 26:48-49 (KJV), “48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.”
After one of the disciples cut off the ear of a guard, Jesus told them if He wanted not to be taken, He could have asked His Father to step in, but then the scriptures (prophecy of Isaiah) would not have been fulfilled
Matthew 26:56 (KJV), “But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.”
Isaiah 53:2-11 (KJV), “2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.”
More prophecy fulfilled
Matthew 26:67 (KJV), “Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands.”
Isaiah 50:6 (KJV), “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.”
Hosea 7
Ephraim is judged
How is this any different than today
Hosea 7:7 (KJV), “They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.”
Hosea 7:13-14 (KJV), “13 Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. 14 And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.”
Jeremiah 41
Insurrection Against Gedaliah
Proverbs 3
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV), “5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Ezekiel 39
Gog’s Armies Destroyed
Son of man
The term son of man is used variously in Scripture. Jesus is indeed referred to as the Son of Man in the New Testament—88 times, to be exact. The term son of man is also found in the Old Testament. The prophet Ezekiel is called “son of man” over 90 times. Thus, both Jesus and Ezekiel can rightly be called “son of man”; but there is something unique about the way the title is applied to Christ.
In the gospels, Jesus often refers to Himself as the Son of Man. Jesus’ use of this title links Him to Daniel, a passage describing the coming Messiah.
Daniel 7:13-14 (KJV), “13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
Only in the gospels do we find the term son of man associated with the definite article, the. Jesus always called Himself “the Son of Man,” as in the only one there is. Ezekiel is never called “the son of man”; he is always just a “son of man,” as in one among many. God probably chose this manner of direct address to point up the contrast between the human condition of Ezekiel and the transcendent majesty of God.
A continuation of Gog from the previous chapter
Gog is the leader of a great army that attacks the land of Israel, which is “peaceful and unsuspecting” at the time. Gog is described as “of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal”
Ezekiel 39:1 (KJV), “Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.”
Ezekiel 39:6 Z(KJV), “And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.”
Even Israel, in direct disobedience of God, is protected in the same manner as when we become God’s chosen, He will never leave us; as Hebrews specifically addresses the ‘chosen’
Hebrews 13:5-6 (KJV), “5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
God’s protection of Israel in lieu of His new covenant with them
Ezekiel 39:7-8 (KJV), “7So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.”
And God’s promise
Ezekiel 39:8 (KJV), “Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord God; this is the day whereof I have spoken.”
Psalm 118:24-26 (KJV), “24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.”
As an example to all fathers in the fallen world, our heavenly Father chastens those who He loves to teach and direct
Ezekiel 39:26-29 (KJV), “26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. 27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; 28 Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them anymore there. 29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.”
Hebrews 12:6 (KJV), “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
