THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A parent is ALWAYS a parent no matter what age your child(ren) is/are
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)A common misunderstanding of this verse is that we all think that we are to train or teach our kids while they are young and they will be established forever. As we are trying to emphasize here is that we cannot just read the scriptures word for word because they were not originally written in English.
The actual word ‘train’ here in ‘train up’ is a verb [Part of Speech: Verb]
Strong’s Concordance (2596) – chanak: to train up, dedicate.
This is a continual training, never stop emphasizing.
Matthew 21
Jesus did not directly say the following two verses, Matthew recognized the prophecy of Zechariah immediately
Matthew 21:4-5 (KJV), “4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.”
Zechariah 9:9 (KJV), “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.”
Blessed is he
Matthew 21:9 (KJV), “And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”
This is the same ‘blessed’ as used in Proverbs 22:9, Old Testament (6239); New Testament (2127).
** See Proverbs 22 below for more on ‘blessed’
Have you ever heard the phrase, “You can move mountains”? Ever wonder where that came from?
Matthew 21:21 (KJV), “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.”
Jesus’ rejection prophesized, taught, and, soon, to be fulfilled
Jesus explains the Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers (vs. 33-40)
Matthew 21:42 (KJV), “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?”
– David in Psalms 118 – Praise to God for His Everlasting Mercy
Psalm 118:22-23 (KJV), “22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.”
– Isaiah prophesized why Ephraim and Jerusalem would suffer destruction quoting David
Isaiah 28:16 (KJV), “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”
Hosea 2 God shows mercy to His unfaithful people
Jeremiah 36
The Jews from all around made their yearly trek to Jerusalem to hear the words of the prophets. God wanted Jeremiah to write down all He said to be read at this time
Jeremiah 36:1-4 (KJV), “And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.”
Proverbs 22
God is not against us having money and/or being wealthy. It is a matter in the way we obtain it. By giving God all of the glory when wealth comes your way, and not boasting in how well you did to obtain it, God will give you all of the riches you deserve.
Proverbs 22:4 (KJV), “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.”
Strong’s Concordance (6239) – osher: riches. Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance – wealth — X far (richer), riches.
More on ‘Blessed’
Proverbs 22:9 (KJV), “He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.”
This is another example on how to read your bible. The word used here, ‘blessed’, is NOT the same ‘blessed’ used in Jesus’ sermon on the mount, commonly called the beatitudes.
Strong’s Concordance (1288) – barak: to kneel, bless. Brown-Driver-Briggs – 4 in gratitude.
Where in the beatitudes…
Strong’s Concordance (3107) – makarios: blessed, happy. Thayer’s Greek Lexicon – blessed, happy.
Matthew 5:4 (KJV), “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
In these verses, the word ‘blessed’ means ‘happy’ as in, “Happy are they that mourn: for they shall be blessed.”
Ezekiel 34
God has always held the Shepherds of the flock responsible for the flock’s direction. God has always warned the Shepherds from fulfilling their own riches and lusts.
Ezekiel 34:1-2 (KJV), “And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?”
Emphasized again in the New Testament
James 3:1 (KJV), “My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.”
Romans 1:21-22 (KJV), “21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”
Ezekiel 34:7-8 (KJV), “7 Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the Lord; 8 As I live, saith the Lord God, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock.”
God will leave the 99 and search for the lost sheep
Ezekiel 34:11-12 (KJV), “11 For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.”
Matthew 18:12 (KJV), “How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?”
Ezekiel 34:16 (KJV), “I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.”
David’s seed appointed the One Shepherd over all
Ezekiel 34:23-24 (KJV), “23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. 24 And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.”
