THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The Excellence of Wisdom
“Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.”
Proverbs 8:14 (KJV)
This world has a lot of evil in it. If you count on worldly wisdom to get through, you will be caught up in the world and driven by its fallacies. Look to God to obtain your wisdom. Follow the wisdom that God will place in your heart to guide you. Go in the direction that God leads you not in the fortune tellers you see on almost every corner and even advertised over social media. Do not get caught up in this. God does not take these things lightly.
II Peter 3
If God said He is coming again, He IS coming again
Hebrews 6:18 (KJV), “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.”
Many will mock us because Jesus said, ‘He is coming soon’…where is He?
Revelation 22:20 (KJV), “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
The word ‘soon’ (or in some translations) ‘quickly’ means “without unnecessary delay.” It does not mean “immediately.”
Strong’s Concordance (5035) – tachu: quickly.
But remember we must look at the content of where the word is used
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance – Neuter singular of tachus (as adverb); shortly, i.e. Without delay, soon.
God’s timing is not our timing
2 Peter 3:8-9 (KJV), “8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
No one knows who God’s chosen are
As it stands, the concept of God electing those who will be saved (predestination) isn’t controversial. It is a biblical truth
John 6:44 (KJV), “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Romans 8:28-30 (KJV), “28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
Ephesians 1:4-5 (KJV), “4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”
How will we know?
2 Peter 3:10 (KJV), “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
If we do not know when Jesus will return, and we do not know when He may take us home, how should you prepare?
2 Peter 3:14 (KJV), “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”
God depends on us to individually dig into His Word and study His Word. If we do not study for ourselves and depend on others…
Peter now speaks of Paul
2 Peter 3:15-16 (KJV), “15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
Beware of false teaching
2 Peter 3:17 (KJV), “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.”
It is so vitally important to personally study the Word of God
Hebrews 10
Sacrifices and the law could never wash away sin
Hebrews 10:4 (KJV), “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”
Jesus was prophesized to come and fulfil the law which could not purify
Christ’s Death Fulfills God’s Will
Psalm 40:6-8 (KJV), “Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”
Hebrews 10:9 (KJV), “Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.”
Only God can take away sins
Hebrews 10:11 (KJV), “And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.”
Jeremiah prophesized of the coming of Jesus
Jeremiah 31:33-34 (KJV), “33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
An then the author of Hebrews reminded the Jewish converts of Jeremiah’s prophecy
Hebrews 10:16-18 (KJV), “16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.”
A warning to those who do not believe in Jesus’ shedding of His blood for our new covenant
Hebrews 10:29 (KJV), “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”
God’s vengeance was foretold
Deuteronomy 32:35 (KJV), “To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.”
The author of Hebrews reminds those he is writing to
Hebrews 10:30 (KJV), “For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.”
Jeremiah 14
A conveying of their wickedness through Jeremiah from God. The people then plead to Jeremiah for mercy.
Proverbs 8 The Excellence of Wisdom (read)
Ezekiel 13 Woe to Foolish Prophets
Ezekiel is warned of false prophecy just as we should be warned of false teaching. God does not take lightly those who teach false doctrine.
Ezekiel 13:8-9 (KJV), “8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God. 9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.”
God does not like divination and fortune tellers
Ezekiel 13:20-21 (KJV), “20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly. 21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.”
The penalty to those who practice witchcraft
Ezekiel 13:22-23 (KJV), “22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: 23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.”
