THE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Do not get apathetic in your walk. Seek God and desire His wisdom. Pursue Him earnestly!
“9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.”
Proverbs 6:9-11 (KJV)
II Peter 2 Destructive Doctrines
A false prophet is a person who spreads false teachings or messages while claiming to speak the Word of God.
To the Jewish converts
2 Peter 2:1 (KJV), “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
Jesus to the faithful on the mount
Matthew 7:15-16 (KJV), “15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
John talking to new believers first hand from Jesus (A true prophet will acknowledge Jesus Christ as divine)
1 John 4:1 (KJV), “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
There really is only one way to avoid being fed falsely and that is to know first-hand for yourself. God desires us to study His Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV), “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
1 John 2:27 (KJV), “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
If you don’t understand what you hear or read, seek wise counsel.
Acts 8:30 (KJV), “And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?”
John 16:13-14 (KJV), “13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”
Acts 17:11 (KJV), “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
John 5:39 (KJV), “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
You must seek God’s knowledge yourself or you could be leading yourself to destruction
2 Peter 2:2-3 (KJV), “2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. ”
How can a dedicated preacher be moved to change directions and start introducing false doctrine?
2 Peter 2:20-21 (KJV), “20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”
2 Peter 2:15 (KJV), “Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.”
2 Peter 2:18-19 (KJV), “18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”
These things can be avoided if they would have followed Paul’s words to Timothy
1 Peter 5:2-4 (KJV), “2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 (KJV), “6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:10-11 (KJV), “10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Hebrews 9
Last verse of previous chapter
Hebrews 8:13 (KJV), “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.”
The first part of the first covenant was only given entrance to the priests. But, only the high priest could enter the Holiest of All
Hebrews 9:6-7 (KJV), “6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. 7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.”
We thank God for giving us the ultimate High Priest, Jesus Christ, and providing direct access
Hebrews 9:14 (KJV), “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
The Jewish converts had to understand why Jesus’ death was necessary
Hebrews 9:22 (KJV), “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Hebrews 9:26 (KJV), “For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
Jeremiah 13
This is similar to 2 Peter where he mentions following false prophets
Jeremiah 13:25 (KJV), “This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the Lord; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.”
Proverbs 6 (Read)
Ezekiel 12 Judah’s Captivity Portrayed
God told Ezekiel to show the house of Israel the start of their captivity
Ezekiel 12:7 (KJV), “And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the even I digged through the wall with mine hand; I brought it forth in the twilight, and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight.”
Ezekiel 12:11 (KJV), “Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.”
Israel, through Ezekiel, is headed off to Babylon
Ezekiel 12:13 (KJV), “My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.”
