Acts 27 The Voyage to Rome Begins
As a reminder of the previous chapter and verse
Acts 26:30-32 (KJV), “30 And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them: 31 And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds. 32 Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.”
Paul sets out to Sidon accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica and Julius, a centurion of the Augustan Regiment
Acts 27:2-3 (KJV), “2 And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. 3 And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.”
Paul’s Warning
Acts 27:10 (KJV), “And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.”
Paul’s Warning ignored
Acts 27:14 (KJV), “But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.”
Strong’s Concordance (2148) – Eurokludón: Euroklydon, northeast wind. Thayer’s Greek Lexicon – a southeast wind raising mighty waves.
The ship and the crew, including Paul, went through tremendous turbulence
Acts 27:20 (KJV), “And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.”
While Paul fasted and waited with the others, an angel of God appeared before him
Acts 27:21-26 (KJV), “21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. 26 Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.”
Paul warned them to stay on the ship
Acts 27:31-32 (KJV), “10 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved. 32 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.”
This must have been a rather large ship
Acts 27:37 (KJV), “And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.”
The ship was full of prisoners, as well as others, that were to ultimately be killed
Acts 27:42-44 (KJV), “42 And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape. 43 But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land: 44 And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.”
Titus 3
God washes away our sins of the past and places the Holy Spirit in us going forward
Titus 3:5-6 (KJV), “5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.”
Do not permit dissension among anyone that involves the striving of keeping any part of the law
Titus 3:9-11 (KJV), “9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.”
Jeremiah 3 Israel Is Shameless
The Lord will never leave you
Jeremiah 3:1 (KJV), “They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the Lord.”
Israel continued to sin and asks God to forgive them
Jeremiah 3:2-5 (KJV), “2 Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. 3 Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore’s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed. 4 Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth? 5 Will he reserve his anger forever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.”
Israel and Judah’s call to repentance
Jeremiah 3:8 (KJV), “And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.”
Israel’s sister, Judah, would not turn to God
Jeremiah 3:10 (KJV), “And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the Lord.”
Israel managed better than Judah
Jeremiah 3:11 (KJV), “And the Lord said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.”
Jeremiah told to tell Israel to repent and all would be forgiven
Jeremiah 3:12-13 (KJV), “12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever. 13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the Lord.”
God is our bridegroom
Jeremiah 3:14-15 (KJV), “14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: 15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
God would give Israel freedom of carrying the ark
Jeremiah 3:16 (KJV), “And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.”
The Spirit of God will be in them when the Messiah comes so the ark is not needed. But in the gospel temple Christ is the ark
John 4:24 (KJV), “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
[1] “But this variety of expressions is used to show that the ceremonies of the law of Moses should be totally and finally abolished, never to be used any more, but that it would be with difficulty that those who had been so long wedded to them should be weaned from them; and that they would not quite let them go till their holy city and holy house should both be levelled with the ground.” (Henry)
Israel shall become eminent and conspicuous
Jeremiah 3:17 (KJV), “At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.”
Then Judah and Israel will become one
Jeremiah 3:18 (KJV), “In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.”
Proverbs 17 (Read)
Ezekiel 1 Ezekiel’s Vision of God
Ezekiel 1:1 (KJV), “Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.”
Chebar means “strong,” “many,” “powerful.” This river, the river of Babylon, indicates that Babylon was strong and powerful, and thus it signifies the power of Babylon in being against God’s people. Today the “river of Chebar” is the satanic tide of the age that carries people away from God to Babylon.
Ezekiel 1:2-4 (KJV), “2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s captivity, 3 The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him. 4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north (5591) , a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. ”
Strong’s Concordance (5591) – ca’ar: storm. Brown-Driver-Briggs – feminine tempest, storm-wind.
TWD – 1. An extensive current of wind, rushing with great velocity and violence; a storm of extreme violence. We usually apply the word to a steady wind of long continuance; but we say also of a tornado.
Isaiah 21:1 (KJV), “The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds (5492) in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.”
Strong’s Concordance (5492) – cuwphah: Sea. Brown-Driver-Briggs – noun feminine storm-wind.
Jeremiah 23:19 (KJV), “Behold, a whirlwind (5591) of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.”
How Ezekiel saw God in his vision during the first Babylonian attack
Ezekiel 1:5-8 (KJV), “5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. 6 And everyone had four faces, and every one had four wings. 7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. 8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.”
Revelation 4:6-8 (KJV), “6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. 7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”
Revelation 1:15 (KJV), “And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.”
Ezekiel 1:10 (KJV), “As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.”
Revelation 4:7 (KJV), “And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.”
Ezekiel 1:5-15

Ezekiel 1:26-27

Ezekiel sees the Trinity
Ezekiel 1:28 (KJV), “As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.”
Strong’s Concordance (3519) – kabowd: glorious. Brown-Driver-Briggs – c. of God, glory, (1) in historic theophanies.
Revelation 4:3 (KJV), “And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.”
Revelation 1:17 (KJV), “And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last.”
